Get Proof You Are a Canadian Citizen
If you are already a Canadian citizen, then you need your citizenship certificate to get your Canadian passport which will allow you to move to Canada to live, work, and study.
There are several ways to become a Canadian citizen:
- Through descent from your parents – if either one of your parents was a Canadian citizen at the time you were born, you are already a Canadian citizen and only need to apply for proof
- Through naturalization – if you immigrated to Canada and applied for citizenship, then you became a Canadian citizen when you took the oath of citizenship
- Through birth in Canada – all people born in Canada are Canadian citizens
If you became a citizen through naturalization, your citizenship certificate would have been given to you at your oath ceremony. If it has been lost or stolen, we can assist you in applying for a new one.
If one of your parents was Canadian at the time of your birth, we can assist you in getting your citizenship certificate so that you can travel freely to Canada to visit or live, work or study.
If you have never had a Canadian citizenship before, the cost to apply for proof of Canadian citizenship through our office is $75 government application fee + $400 professional fee.
If you are applying to replace your lost, stolen, or destroyed Canadian citizenship certificate, the cost is $75 government application fee + $250 professional fee.
