Starting in 2024, holders of Canadian passports who intend to travel to European nations for up to 90 days in a 180-day period must submit an online application to the European travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). Right now, Canadian nationals can enter Europe without visa or other authorization.
Canadian tourists will have to complete a form containing their personal data information about their travel documents, their level of education and current employment, information about any criminal convictions. Time frame may be extended by up to 14 days or by up to 30 days if any additional information or proof is needed.
How much ETIAS will cost?
The Fee to apply for ETIAS is 7 Euro. Seniors above the age of 70 and children under the age of 18 are exempt from paying the fee. Families of EU citizens and non-EU nationals with free movement rights within the EU are likewise excluded from paying the fee.
What Identification and Information is Required for Canadians to Enter the Schengen Area?

- Travel document details;
- Details about your level of education and current occupation;
- Details about your intended travel and stay in any of the countries requiring ETIAS;
- Details about any criminal convictions, any past travels to war or conflict zones, and whether you have recently been subject of a decision requiring you to leave the territory of any country.
Which nations will require an ETIAS for Canadian citizens to visit?
To travel to the following 30 nations beginning in 2024, Canadian citizens will need an ETIAS: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. As a result, Canadian nationals will also require an ETIAS to travel to the following open-bordered European microstates: Vatican City (through Italy), San Marino (via Italy), and Monaco (via France).
