The Hon. Mark Miller, who succeeds Sean Fraser as Canada’s next minister of immigration, was announced on July 26. Known as the Canadian politician who won the 2015 election to represent the House of Commons seat of Ville-Marie—Le Sud-Ouest—Île-des-Soeurs. In 2019, he was re-elected as Minister of Indigenous Services by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Following his election in 2021, Marc was named Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations in 2021. For the sake of middle-class families in Montréal, he has devoted his whole career to boosting government expenditures in affordable housing, public transportation, and the Canada Child benefit.
The new minister will be challenged to deliver results on the three priorities that Canadians hold most dear: increasing the standard of living for the middle class, expanding the economy, and securing a bright future for everyone. The ministry team will continue to advance on housing and put more money back into families’ pockets by building on the work done since 2015 to invest in Canadians, to strengthen the middle class, and to support those working hard to join it. The group will keep up its efforts to combat climate change and travel the common path of reconciliation in order to offer a brighter future for everyone.
Who was Mark Miller before entering the politics?
Marc earned degrees in both common and civil law from the McGill University Faculty of Law in 2001. He was a lawyer with international expertise who focused on mergers and acquisitions before going into politics. He practiced in Montréal, Stockholm, and New York City. Marc has produced publications on constitutional and human rights legislation and taken part in a variety of philanthropic and pro bono legal activities.
He previously served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an infantryman. Minister Miller graduated from the Université de Montréal with a Master’s and a Bachelor’s in Political Science.
